Bread Baker

Standard Baking Co. is looking for a full-time, experienced bread baker. We’re a James Beard Award finalist, independently-owned retail/wholesale artisan bakery who specialize in hand-crafted breads and pastries. We strive to perfect our slow and naturally-fermented breads each day, sourcing the highest quality Maine-grown heritage grains and local ingredients. As part of our small baking team your primary responsibility is to meet production deadlines and quality standards as set by the bakery while contributing to our passionate and positive workplace culture. Tasks may include prepping, mixing, shaping (including lamination), baking, yeasted and naturally-leavened breads and hand-crafted viennoiserie. Those with a minimum one year professional baking or restaurant experience will be given top consideration. The ideal individual will possess a genuine service-oriented attitude towards co-workers, clientele and our community and is passionate about producing world-class breads/pastries. Excellent professional references are necessary.

This is a 40 hour/week position, including weekends and early-morning hours, and may include later hours as well.

Pastry Baker

As part of our small baking team your primary responsibility is to meet production deadlines and quality standards as set by the bakery while contributing to our passionate and positive workplace culture. Tasks may include prepping, mixing doughs/batters, shaping and baking cookies, scones, seasonal individual tarts and pastries. We specialize in hand-crafted breakfast pastries and yeasted viennoiserie. Those with a minimum one year professional baking or restaurant experience will be given top consideration. This is a great opportunity to explore bread baking and working with yeast and natural leavening, to build on your pastry background. The ideal individual will possess a genuine service-oriented attitude towards co-workers, clientele and our community and is passionate about producing world-class breads/pastries. Excellent professional references are necessary.

This is a 40 hour/week position, including weekends and early-morning hours, and may include later hours as well. Your schedule will be fixed, with days off scheduled together. Potential for 4-day workweek (32 hours), as skills progress, is optional.

Retail Customer Service

We’re now hiring a year-round Bakery Retail associate to help us with front of the house customer service at our busy retail bakery counter.

We’re a fast-paced work environment, and prefer candidates with prior hospitality/food/coffee experience and an ability to multi-task. You should be neat, clean, organized, and love keeping things neat, clean and organized. We’d like you to take pride in our appearance and yours.

Responsibilities include all front of house customer service, bakery inventory and displays, maintaining a clean and organized retail shop.

You’ll have a set schedule every week tailored to your needs and ours, but we might also need you to pick up shifts when others need time off. This position offers 18-24 hours/week and will require one weekend day.

Summer Parking Attendant

Standard Baking Co. is looking for a friendly parking attendant/customer greeter to join our team this summer. You will not only be helping facilitate the flow of vehicles in our busy parking lot but will also be our official customer greeter and a Portland ‘ambassador’, assisting visitors explore local attractions in our cool little city.

Details:

Training wage starting at $18/hour; Daily shifts run 8am-2pm; position is part-time, 18-24 hours/week starting immediately and ending in late September. Additional hours may be available at our retail shop or driving/delivering around Portland. Signing bonus possible at season completion!
